Guides & Info New Players

Your character has many ways of being customized and geared. This guide will walk you through the full Character information to help you decide what ways you would like to customize yours.

Leveling Your Character

As with any game, one objective of the game is to level your character. With your level increases come health and some core attribute increases, making it easier to fight enemies as they get more powerful in your story.

Newly trained abilities are automatically added to your Quickbar as you level, allowing you to use them immediately. You can view all of your abilities by opening the Abilities Window by pressing P (by default).

Trainers no longer will give general abilities but still must be visited to receive your Speeder abilities periodically until you have gotten all five speeds, allowing you to go faster each speeder level on your mount. These Speeder abilities will be available when you see trainers with the green + symbol under the trainer’s icon.

Leveling Fast

What are the fastest ways to level? Here is a short list of some of the things we have found that work:

  • Heroics – these are probably the fastest way, but can only be done once per planet, per character per day.
  • Flashpoints – with a group these can be fairly fast to run, but boring to do over and over again.
  • XP Boosts – You will get and can purchase XP Boosts that will give you 25% more XP for an allotted time.
  • Guilds – Joining a guild can give you 15% or more XP Boosts, depending on their Guild Perks.
  • Subscribe – Yes, this makes a difference. You receive XP 20% faster as a subscriber.
  • Side Quests – Doing all the story and planetary missions will speed the XP increase. These are purple missions.
  • Stealth – If your character has stealth, use it to get past mobs and to the end of missions faster to get the larger XP gain faster.
  • Speeder – Purchase a speeder to get around faster.
  • Crafting Missions – Once you get to fleet, pick up the Crew Skills and start sending your companions on missions. These grant fairly good amounts of XP.
  • Unlocks – Character Unlocks for XP are useful and add to your XP gains, so be sure to unlock any that apply to the route you are taking to level.
  • Double XP – Watch for announcements of Double XP weeks and take advantage.
  • Master’s Datacron – if you want to skip it all, purchase a Master’s Datacron from the Cartel Market and use it to reach level 80 without having to do a thing. This is a good option if you have already done the classes and have a general knowledge of the game, but is not a good recommendation for new players.

Leveling Slower

There are two ways to level slower, depending on your timing.

During the Double XP events, you can buy what is called a White Acute Module at the Gree creature named Hathe’k in the Combat Training area of the fleet on both Republic and Imperial Fleets. This creature is only there during the Double XP weeks. These White Acute Modules are legacy bound, so if you can grab one, you can pass it between characters on your legacy.

The White Acute Module will remove the extra XP that the Double XP event adds and lasts for 8 hours. It is reusable.

The second way is to do nothing but your story line, no heroics, no side quests, just your story. This will have you gaining levels at a much slower rate than if you did all the side quests.

There isn’t really any other ways that are very effective in slowing the leveling process, so plan accordingly for how fast you would like to level.

Legacy

When you reach level 10, you will be able to create your Star Wars Legacy and bind all your characters together as a family or as friends that will allow you to unlock new skills and opportunities.

In addition to giving your legacy of Characters a permanent name, each character will be able to have things unlocked, like species for new characters, datacrons collected, reputation, and other conveniences. Light and Dark Alignment

With Legacy of the Sith expansion, they removed the Light and Dark side tokens but left the Dark vs Light alignment system with a few small changes. Your alignment now is completely tied to your choices you make in your story. Here is a run down of what that means.

Dark Side Points

Dark Side points can give you a little bit more than Light Side points can, including:

  • Dark Side Corruption – As you go up your Dark side ranks, you will be able to apply the Dark Side Corruption effect to your character, showing pale skin, veins and glowing eyes in some instances. You are able to turn this off and on in case you don’t want to see it all the time.
  • Achievements – Dark V brings with it some achievements, title and the ability to use “Sacrifice” on any of your characters on the server.
  • More Options – Unlocking Dark V on any of your characters on the server will unlock the ability to create Jedi that can use the Dark Side combat styles or add a Dark Side combat style as the second combat style of a Jedi (subscribers only).

Light Side Points

Light Side points can still give you a couple things, including:

  • Achievements – Light V brings with it some achievements, title and the ability to use the defensive ability “Unity” on any of your characters on the server.
  • More Options – Unlocking Light V on any of your characters on the server will unlock the ability to create Sith that can use the Light Side combat styles or add a Light Side combat style as the second combat style of a Sith (subscribers only).

Tier Levels

Both Light and Dark side ranks are given at these point levels and can be seen by opening your Character Screen (default is C) and then hovering over the alignment meter in the lower left corner:

PointsRank
1,000Dark or Light I
2,000Dark or Light II
4,000Dark or Light III
6,750Dark or Light IV
10,000Dark or Light V

How to Get Light and Dark Side Points

We have found a few ways that are fairly easy to get the Light and Dark side points. Some are fairly basic and easy to do, others are solely up to your choices. Let me sum it up.

Diplomacy Crew Skill MissionsCrew Skills can be picked up on fleet the first time you visit there in the Strongholds & Crew Skills section. When you go there, choose the Diplomacy mission skill. Once chosen, you can hit B and open the Crew Skills Crafting menu to start sending your companions out on missions.

Your Diplomacy missions will have a Dark Side symbol or a Light Side symbol showing which alignment it may add to upon completion of that mission. The higher the level of the mission, the more points you will get.
Side QuestsAs you go through your story, you will find some side quests to complete. Some of these will also give you points toward your Light and Dark side alignments.
HeroicsHeroic missions will sometimes get you alignment points based on your choices. This is one of the main ways you will get them if mostly doing story rather than crafting/crew skills.

These will grant 50-100 points for each choice made.
FlashpointsLike the Heroics, these you will gain points based on your choices. Keep in mind, not all Flashpoints and Heroics will grant points.

These will grant 100-150 points for each choice made.

Titles – Character & Legacy

Titles are rewards that you get for completing activities or reaching certain levels in the game. In-game, you can find a full list of these in the Codex under “Achievement: Titles”.

Your titles can be displayed as part of your character nameplate and can be chosen and hidden from the Character Sheet by selecting the small medal symbol () under your name on the main screen.

You will get some class specific titles, shown below, as you go through your story and level. There will be a full list of titles and how to get them coming in the future. (They have been hidden to keep them from being spoilers for those that may not want to know them.)

NOTE: Story titles will not be granted if you use the Level Token on your account or if you start the Knights of the Fallen Empire, Knights of the Eternal Throne or any expansion past that from your ship prior to completing your story.

Legendary Player

One of the biggest things that people want to achieve in the game is Legendary Status. But what is it? Legendary Status means you have completed the Origin story for all eight classes in the game. You have played from the very beginning to the end of Corellia with each one.

Each class has a different story, different characters and different outcomes, so in working for the Legendary Status, you get to enjoy the full story of the game.

What do you get for reaching Legendary Status? Well, first and foremost, bragging rights. Yeah, you read that right. It is a huge investment to have gone through all the class stories and tons of fun figuring out your favorite Origin story line.

Some of the other things you will get by reaching Legendary Status are:

  • Character Flair – This can be used on any character in your Legacy on that server.
  • Select Screen Completed – All the icons light up, showing the progress you have as you go, and fully opened when you complete it.
  • Class Buffs – These are great additions to the play of the game. Click the button below to find out what buff you get for each class.
  • Heroic Moment – These are abilities you can use in a pinch when you need some extra strength. It even enables you to use tech abilities on force users and force abilities on tech users for the classes you have unlocked. Click the button below for each class Heroic Moment ability.
  • Class Emotes – Fun emotes that show off the class specific skills. Used solely for fun, but nice, nonetheless.

Social Ranks

These are ranks that, as of 7.0, have to be completed via groupfinder in the Group Activities Panel. It is a little tricky, because it requires a few things to apply and grant the social points. The following activities must use the Groupfinder and have ALL available selected.

  • Story Operations – 4/4 (not normally used and if very difficult to find a group for)
  • Veteran Uprisings – 5/5 (best if four friends are grouped and use the group finder to save time.
  • BEST OPTIONVeteran Flashpoints – 28/28 (may be 29/29 after 7.3 release)
  • Master Flashpoints – 28/28 (may be 29/29 after 7.3 release)

So how do you know where you are with Social Points? Press Y (by default) and go to the Achievements ▶ Legacy ▶ Advancement ▶ Group Finder. We will be posting more information about titles, ranks and rewards for Social Points soon.
